INFO SHEET: Thinking about safety

INFO SHEET: Thinking about safety

by Russ Grayson, January 2010, updated December 2020.

COMMON SENSE GARDEN SAFETY is based on the safe gardening guidelines written by the author of this article and published in the Carrs Park Community Garden – Gardeners’ Guide and in the book, Seed To Seed, published by the Seed Savers Network.

Common sense garden safety

Our community gardens must be maintained in a condition conducive to their safe use by gardeners and to visits by non-gardeners.
One way to ensure that new gardeners acquire knowledge about gardening safely is for it to be included as an introductory workshop.
Garden safety is very much about common sense and thinking about what we do. Garden safety is simple.

Sometimes we just work in the garden without the proper precautions, since I live in the city I did not consider that big snake. Great tips!

I have only just found your site and am finding it very informative. Love the rules.
I am a committee member of the Forbes Riverside Community Garden located in Reymond St in Forbes NSW. The FRCG was started in 2012 and has grown and grown. We now have 23 private garden beds that we rent out to members along with 14 communal beds where we produce vegies for sale. It is a great place for social gatherings and conviviality as we all tend to the garden beds. Our Facebook page is Forbes Riverside Community Garden
