QLD — Graceville Community Garden

Recently, one of our community gardens situated on Brisbane City Council land received a letter from the Council. The letter mentioned that all future community garden beds would need to be raised, whether the underlying land was polluted or not. Also, we would be charged a $600 licensing fee annually. These conditions came out of the blue, with no prior consultation. Naturally, we Brisbane community gardeners were alarmed by these requirements.

Fortunately, Gavin Hardy of CGA-Qld came to our rescue. Gavin met with the Brisbane City Council community garden representative and negotiated to, not only have these onerous conditions removed, but also to establish a future communication channel with the Council’s community garden representative. What a splendid outcome. Thank you, Gavin and CGA-Qld.
