Westside Community Garden Alice (Mparntwe)

Westside Community Garden is an initiative of the Arid Lands Environment Centre, made possible through an MOU with Centralian Middle School where the garden is located. Building off the success of the Alice Springs Community Garden in East Side, our newest garden in Gillen will support the development of sustainable food systems for arid land communities.

Westside Garden is providing local people with opportunities to learn about best arid zone gardening practices and sustainable desert living, connect with others in their community, grow, harvest and heal through their participation in the garden.

The garden development is guided by permaculture principles and will create a food forest environment, utilising both in-ground and wicking bed communal food growing techniques.

Our working bees are the 1st. and 3rd. Thursday and following Sunday of the month. There’s something for everyone!

You can find the garden along Jim McConville Oval fenceline with Centralian Middle School (between Milner Rd & Memorial Ave. Gillen.
