Joy of the Earth Community Garden

15 Joy St Frankston VIC 3199

Joy of the Earth Community Garden is in Joy Street, Frankston and is set out on what used to be four dis-used and overgrown tennis courts on two levels.

In 2012 a few residents took the challenge to Frankston Council of turning the tennis courts into a community garden and were granted permission.

This was five years ago and the garden now boasts 55 Garden beds, 5 of which are built high off the ground for use by disabled members and with wheelchair access.

There are also 2 communal beds from which members can help themselves to produce as well as a herb garden and butterfly garden. The Garden has 70 happy, friendly, helpful members. All plot members are requested to grow organic produce and no chemicals are used.

As well as the garden beds, there is a Rotunda with table, chairs, blinds, pizza oven, noticeboard, fridge, electricity all installed by the members. Two beehives produce excellent quality honey and tank water is used. Tools are provided and stored in sheds & a garage.

At the rear of the garden, a sensory garden with shade sail and decking has been built with special emphasis on children. Also on this lower level are 4 compost bins and a worm farm.

Working bees, outings, and get-togethers are held very regularly.

Frankston Council surrounded the site with new fencing and supplied a two-toilet block for which we are ever grateful.
