The Gilgandra Community Garden is situated at the rear of the Cooee Heritage Centre and overlooks the Castlereagh River.
Gilgandra Community Garden in partnership with Gilgandra Shire Council is the successful recipient of the FRRR: Strengthening Rural Communities grant.
The Gilgandra Community Garden was established in 2023, following the pandemic to reduce social isolation, provide an inclusive and tranquil setting that supports access to local fresh produce (Vegetables and herbs), healthy eating, positive mental health & wellbeing and supports active and passive recreational activities of gardening, weeding, planting, adding organic materials and compost.
Activity is self-directed to your own capabilities; although there is always the chance to learn on our working bees from experienced gardeners.
We are inclusive and encourage participation from the very young, youths, seniors, First Nations peoples, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse peoples, those in the community living with disabilities and our LGBTQIA+ community members.
We advertise on our Facebook page for upcoming working bees and encourage all our community to walk along the Windmill Walk alongside the Castlereagh River to ‘have a respectful little pick of our fresh produce; so we may continue to share our produce with all our community’.
