CONNECT with Community Food Forests and Orchard
Video from Gavin Hardy, Community Garden Australia’s Queensland Community Garden Coordinator
TAKE THE STRUCTURE of the natural forest with its ground layer of plants, its shrubs and small trees as a middle layer and with its taller trees forming a canopy above, and substitute edible species. What do you have? You have a food forest.
It is a way of making use of vertical space in a garden. It is also a way to make productive use of land in the city, and that makes the food forest useful in urban planning and community development.
Food foresters benefit from a little expert knowledge and acquiring this makes them useful learning spaces for the biological sciences.
This is Gavin’s story about his passion and expertise in creating these innovative public green spaces for community and nature connection.
