The Apace Community Gardens are the oldest community gardens in WA.
These organic vegetable gardens are run on an allotment system providing access to land for vegetable growing and have been in operation since 1985.
There is a waiting list for community gardeners to get a plot.
The gardens have played many roles over the years. They have been a haven for flat dwellers with no access to land for vegetable growing and have provided access to the earth for newly arrived rural immigrants. They have acted as an educational and teaching environment for school children.
