The Axedale Community Garden began late in 2020 in the midst of COVID19, and construction of wicking beds, garden shed and shade arbour continued throughout 2021.

Set in the midst of the small town of Axedale (about 20km from Bendigo in Central Victoria) the garden is auspiced by community group Axedale Our Town Our Future Inc,  and has been developed on land at the rear of the local Uniting Church.

The MoU between the two organisations states that the aim is to ‘grow food and to grow community’ and the garden has been successful on both fronts over the last 2 years, with working bees held at least every month and a high level of local support.

History

Established late 2020 in the midst of COVID19.  Axedale is a small and growing community about 20 km from the regional centre of Bendigo.

Auspice is community group Axedale-Our Town Our Future Inc. which has an MoU with the local Uniting Church who have agreed to host the garden on land at rear of their property at no charge (and also cover the public liability insurance).

We now have several large wicking beds, a number of smaller raised garden beds and are developing a native garden of plants indigenous to our local area.    We have no ongoing funding but have attracted sponsorship and in kind support from a wide range of local businesses and community members. (and were successful in attracting two small grants to assist with initial establishment costs).
