We are excited to let you know that the Active Locals app has just launched and is a great way to find locals to join and support your community garden.
Active Locals is a free mobile app designed to help people discover and join local activity groups – making it easier for communities to get active and for community gardens like yours to attract new participants. Active Locals is backed by HCF, Australia’s largest not-for-profit health insurer, and their mission is to make staying active more social, accessible, and engaging. They are currently focusing on onboarding groups across Sydney and Melbourne so that when they market this to individuals they will be able to see some awesome groups to join near where they live.
You can find the instructions below – should not take more than 10mins to setup your community garden.
Instructions:
- Download the app:
- Please create a personal account and select your chosen suburb of where you live (or where you want to see events you might like to join – doesn’t have to be the location of your own group)
- Once on – on the “My Community” page scroll down to “Start a Group” and go through the prompts. You will need one photo on your phone for the group and once you setup your group you will be able to create a event (photo also needed for this).
- In your instance – Group would be “Randwick Community Garden” and the event could be “Saturday Gardening Social Session”. This is just an example but you can pick the names that work for you!
