Canberrans to explore community garden options

Community Gardens Australia (CGA) has been engaged by the Suburban Land Agency (SLA) in Canberra to work with the local community in a growing residential development in Lawson.

CGA and the SLA will be setting up opportunities to hear what people have to say about what they would want to see included in a local community garden and gauge interest in the potential project.

CGA’s own Naomi Lacey will be leading the project, starting with a consultation process to get the conversation started.

“Community gardens are deeply rooted in place. They help people in so many ways – helping them grow food close to home, reduce their carbon footprints, and strengthen their neighbourhood connections,” Naomi said.

“No two community gardens are the same, so I’m really looking forward to hearing what people in Lawson want to see planned for their community garden, so we can help to start make that happen in 2026.”

The Suburban Land Agency is an ACT government agency delivering residential, commercial and industrial developments across the Territory. They’re working to create great places where communities thrive. So it makes sense for them to explore community gardens as an option for areas where new housing developments are planned.
