Our organic food growing movement started out in 2019 in a South Aussie, urban backyard, growing worms, sifting castings with a home made trommel, hand sewing sacks and more! We sold our worms and castings at local markets.
We then graduated to manufacturing worm farms (the stacking Worm Castle) and had to rent a warehouse to accommodate this expansion in operations. Once established at 61 Anderson Walk, Smithfield, posting the worm farms and worms across Australia via our online store, we opened our doors to local sales, assisted by a few plants and an organic fertiliser range, called Microtek Organics. Being worm farmers, we realised that organic inputs were essential to healthy worms, so we carried the organic theme into the garden centre.
Surprisingly, the plants sold and needed replacing! A few months went by, and more and more plants appeared and disappeared, and in the blink of an eye, we were suddenly a garden centre, called Garden Goodness Smithfield! The entire shop range was built from scratch with recycled materials, such as second hand pallets, sold second hand refurbished tools, and focussed on organic, South Aussie products and plants. We are extremely fortunate to have worked with a number of organic growers, based right here in SA, including Renaissance Herbs and Nomad Nursery, as amazing suppliers.
We now have a strong team of local workers, who are learning to apply permaculture principles across SA, from running workshops for local community groups, (The Australian Worm Firm and Garden Goodness), running the local organic garden centre (check out the medicinal herb range) (Herbal Goodness), reaching out with garden maintenance and redesign (Garden Goodness Gardening Services).
