Joan’s Patch – A Garden for the Community

Community garden

Basic Information

Joan's Patch is a community garden in Hawthorndene.

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month from 1pm to 4pm in winter months and 2pm to 5pm in summer months, and on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 10am to 12pm - to grow and share produce, to share knowledge and to enjoy each other's company.

Joan's Patch was established in July 2013. The owners of Joan's Pantry offered land behind the cafe to people in the local community interested in setting up a community garden. The garden, whilst maintaining ties with Joan's Pantry owners, operates independently as a community garden. In November 2023, we celebrated our 10-year anniversary. Our members are actively involved in continuing to develop the garden as well as reaching out to other community gardens, gardening organisations and the local community. We warmly welcome new members.
