The Annual SA Gathering at Glenelg North Community Centre was a wonderful day of inspiration for our members. Kicking off with a magnificent Welcome To Country from our sisters at Spirit In Unity there was much singing and dancing from everyone present. So much fun and a wonderful start to the day. Was fabulous to see all the smiling, happy faces and watching Costa work up a sweat, dancing his heart out to Warumpi Band!

Brenton Kortman from the SA Rare Fruit Society talked about growing subtropical species in the Adelaide region. His tips and tricks were a hot topic of conversation throughout the rest of the day. I think the local nurseries will be doing a hot trade on mangoes and banana plants over the coming months as community gardeners develop their microclimates to accommodate them. Alison from The Australian Worm Firm then spoke about caring for your worm farms, how to make the most of them and how to manage any issues you might come across. Their amazing market stall outside was well attended throughout the day too with a dazzling array of seedlings, worm farm products and so much more.

Thanks for all your help Karen!
CGA’s newest workshop, Harvesting Support, was a winner and helped everyone to think differently about how they can best seek, gain and maintain ongoing support for their gardens. This was followed by tours of the magnificent Glenelg North Community Garden and Q&A sessions with Costa in the main hall.

We had a number of market stalls on the day from Neutrog, an extremely popular organic fertiliser company in SA, the local men’s shed, Brompton Community Garden with their divine preserves and the community garden itself that was doing a hot trade on plants all day. Lunch was another great feast from the Hare Krishna temple and was enjoyed outside on the lawns by all.
Huge thanks must go to Brendan and the team from the City of Holdfast Bay who were major supporters of the event. We can’t thank them enough for their generosity and assistance in making the event happen. Also a big thanks to our wonderful sponsors at WaterUps. Their ongoing support of our events is always appreciated. And our tireless CGA volunteers – you are all magnificent humans and made the day go off without a hitch! Thank you all so much for your time!

Don’t miss out on next year’s Gathering in Adelaide on 10th October at Holdfast Bay Community Centre. We’ll look forward to seeing you all there!
