2024 TAS community Garden Gathering

Growing food, growing communities…

There’s nothing like a gathering to bring people from across Tasmania together to learn, network, eat good food, be entertained and have a good time. And that is what happened last weekend when community gardeners converged in Launceston.

Thanks largely to the work of Community Gardens Tasmania coordinator, Jo Dean, community gardens have become venues not only for those of us born in Australia but for immigrants and refugees. That was evident at the gathering where we were treated to music by a Bhutanese band, a local and largely impromptu ukulele trio and dancers from the Solomon Islands and Fiji. And that’s not to mention tasty food cooked by a Red Cross women’s group of African and West Asian (Middle East) people and others.
