October 2011 is set to be a month-long community garden celebration in Adelaide. Throughout October there will be community garden open days, school and community garden tours, workshops, and more.

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation Presents Adelaide Kitchen Garden Schools Tour with Maggie BeerHosted by the SAKGF’s wonderful South Australian Ambassador Maggie Beer, our first-ever South Australian schools tour visits established Kitchen Garden Schools throughout Adelaide that have been running the Kitchen Garden Program for several years and are now reaping the benefits. Join Maggie to view kitchen and garden classes in action, speak to Foundation staff and school staff, and enjoy a delicious gourmet lunch. This is an inspirational day that showcases the beautiful and productive school gardens as well as the home-style kitchens, and gives participants a chance to get closer to the Program in action. The tours are suitable for staff from interested schools and new Kitchen Garden Schools, as well as our Subscribers and interested members of the public.

8 week Organic Gardening Course
Commencing Thursday 20th October 2011 at Fern Avenue Community Garden, 18 Fern Ave, Fullarton.
8 weekly sessions of 2 ½ hours 6pm to 8.30pm
Presented by organic gardening specialist David Corkill, the course covers theory and practical work and topics include:
• Soil and soil preparation
• Wise watering
• How plants work
• Compost – benefits and how to make it
• How to propagate plants
• The interaction between plants and how they help each other
• Safe methods of weed and pest control

Willunga Environment Centre presents Community, Sustainability & Environment EXPO
Willunga High School
This family event will feature stalls, displays, workshops (including one on community gardens!), kids’ activities, and a range of speakers and entertainment from 10 am to 4 pm each day. Earth Station Festival, Belair National Park
