A coastal community garden for the northern subtropics

Byron Council’s Sustainability crew report of a new initiative in the state’s north…

NUMBER OF COMMUNITY GADRENS is growing in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, just south of the Queensland border, as it is in other cities and states.

There, the Ocean Shores/South Golden Beach area is the latest town in Byron Shire to secure land for a community garden. The garden is located in the township between the Highway and the sea.

An area of 1,600m2 adjoining Shara Boulevarde in North Ocean Shores was allocated by Byron Shire Council for the establishment of the communal garden that will include veggie beds, fruit and nut tree orchards, shade structures, compost bays and water tanks.
