Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in Tassie

The Taroona Neighbourhood Garden had a wild day last November with a Mad Hatters Tea Party which was part of a Taroona community celebration with the Taroona Art Trail The event was opened by Costa who arrived as King Neptune from the sea in a locally made skiff, flanked by a team of swimmers to an audience of thousands.

It was a day of planting natives on the coast, exploring the art trail and the ephemeral labyrinth, with opportunities to join the weaving or beginners’ gardening workshop.  In the late afternoon in the Taroona Neighbourhood Garden, the crowd erupted at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Costa, by then dressed as a garden gnome, hyped up the more than 200 visitors by interacting with a group of teenagers who were also dressed in role.  The Queen of Hearts fulfilled her role splendidly by hiding her playing cards while cards on-lookers sipped  tea and enjoyed the many cakes!

It was a crazy fun day. It engaged the community with a heightened sense of the local wonder of the garden.
