A new community garden by Brinkworth Primary & Early Childhood Centre.

A community garden that provides fresh food and friendship with regular fortnightly gatherings on Thursdays at 4.30pm.  The garden is made up of self-watering wicking beds which provide a bounty of produce.

History
The idea of a community garden originated from the Uni SA Occupational Therapy placement scheme where students questioned the community about what their needs were. Being over 25km away from any fresh food outlet as there are no shops in this rural town, it was decided a community garden with fresh, easy to access and affordable produce would be advantageous for the ageing population.

With partnership from the local school, has been a great way of bringing the community together.

Successes/opportunities
This garden space has become a weekly gathering where the community meet on Thursdays at 4.30pm to tend to the garden, mix and mingle over a cuppa.

Problems/challenges
We are looking at running regular ‘patch to plate’ cooking classes where produce will be harvested, cooked and shared.

we have found some produce goes to waste as people might be unsure or not have the facilities to cook or prepare the produce.
