Holdsworth Communal Garden
Basic Information
The Holdsworth Rain Garden was declared open on 7 February 2010.
Due to a growing interest in community gardening, and the need to conserve our precious water supplies, this garden was developed by Woollahra Council to act as a demonstration site for how rainwater can be used to grow and sustain a garden, and to allow the local community to grow and harvest their own local, organic produce.
Up until now, Woollahra Council has maintained the site through quarterly workshops, however the garden requires more care and maintenance throughout the year. The garden is a fantastic, public resource and the vision for the site is to establish a group of passionate, local residents who are committed to maintaining, planting, and harvesting from the garden regularly. The garden gates are unlocked 24/7 and anybody from the community is welcome to have input into, and harvest from, the site.
On Neighbour Day (Sunday 25 March 2012) Woollahra Council held a working bee where 25 enthusiastic local residents met their neighbours and helped rejuvenate the site.
Over the next six to twelve months, Woollahra Council will hold further working bees as well as providing training in organic gardening techniques to interested residents.
All local residents are invited to visit the garden whenever they would like to pick from and maintain the space
