Basic Information

Overview
The Britannia Reserve community food forest is a community managed space containing mainly fruit trees with general plans to expand planting beds to contain a mixture of bush tucker species, other fruit and vegetables. In addition to growing fresh fruit and vegetables for the community, the space is intended as a hub for community outreach and bonding events such as seed swaps, seedling sales and 'how to' workshops. Volunteers are sought for a range of activities or for supporting specific projects below. Facilities include:

Composting bays and bins.
Water tank and solar powered hand held irrigation system.
Tool shed with a range of garden tools and a wheelbarrow.

Current projects
Black Cockatoo Food Forest
The Black Cockatoo Forest planting is planned on National Tree Day on 27th July 2025 and will use part of the existing food forest land as well as  an additional area of land granted to us by the Council. Before the planting day, there is a lot of work to be done making compost for the site and then preparing the site for planting. Volunteers are welcome.
Community Composting
We have established a community composting operation to prepare compost for a range of activities:

Existing fruit trees as well as
New garden beds
Black Cockatoo Food Forest
My Healthy Soil Project members

The Potting Shed
The Potting Shed is where we have our worm farms set up and is where we mix soil and members grow plants.
