SYDNEY MIGHT HAVE PIONEERED IT but now Melbournians are laying claim to it in Port Phillip local government
area. There. locals are setting up their own community composting system and it’s not unlike its Sydney predecessor.
A couple Aerobins have been installed as well as a timber receptacle for dry, carbon-rich materials that are an important pat of the composting process. Here, shredded news and office paper, dried leaves an grass can be left to add to the nitrogen-rick food waste in the bins. A lack of carbon materials led to an infestation of cockroaches that affected the Pace Park community composting system in Sydney.
