2017 Northern Rivers Community Gardens Convergence
In May 2017, a collection of community garden representatives gathered together for the inaugural Northern Rivers Community Garden Convergence. Representatives from Murwillumbah, Ballina, Suffolk Park, Pottsville, Ocean Shores, and Lennox Head Community Gardens heard from Adam Guise (from NSW Health) who spoke about the role that Community Gardens play in providing preventative health activities, food and health education, healthy lifestyles and community building.
Looking beyond the community garden model, the group spoke about edible streets, food-scaping, verge gardens, school gardens, and food production in public spaces.
ACFCGN is excited to support the Northern Rivers Community Garden network and hear more about their progress in the coming months.
Thanks to Mullumbimby Community Garden for hosting the event and Joel Orchard from Future Feeders for organising the event
