Report by Peta Christensen, November 2016
Welcome community gardeners and city farmers from across Australia to our first edition of the ACFCGN’s enews. I have recently stepped into the president’s shoes taking over from the very passionate, skilled and wonderful Jane Mowbray who has now stepped over into the role of memberships officer. On behalf of the ACFCGN I’d like to thank Jane for all of her commitment and hard work as president – I’m afraid Jane has even more of her work cut out for her as more and more gardens become paid up members assisting the ACFCGN to continue to support the growing urban agriculture movement across the country, luckily for us she’s up for the challenge, so if you haven’t become a member yet, Jane is ready to get you all set up!
After a fantastic national gathering and AGM in Perth a few months ago where we got to come together with gardeners and committee members and signed up some wonderful new state representatives we are all excited about a very productive year ahead supporting existing city farms and community gardens across the country and also hopefully being able to offer assistance to any new gardens and gardeners. The national map and database are excellent resources reflecting nearly 600 gardens and city farms and with your help the committee are working hard to ensure that this resource is a true reflection of all the projects out there.
I’m also excited to announce that the ACFCGN National Gathering and AGM for 2017 will be in Victoria and we’ll be letting you know more details about that in next season’s e-news.
Remember, the ACFCGN is your organisation and the website, map and database are your resources so make sure you use them to grow your project either through the fact sheets and other info, uploading your garden events and courses which our amazing social media and website guru Fiona Grayson will then promote for you on our facebook page – it’s all there waiting for you to tap into!
