2015 Sydney Community Garden Regional MeetUP at Charlie’s Garden
Story by Russ Grayson, December 2015
IN WHAT IS PROBABLY Sydney’s smallest community garden, visitors on Sunday got a big welcome at Charlie’s Garden.
The visitors were attending the Australian City Farms & Community Gardens Network’s Sydney seasonal get-together. The get-togethers are informal events that mix tours of the gardens, plenty of tasty food and conviviality and they are advertised on the Network’s Facebook. The previous get-together was at Pittwater Community Gardens and, the season before that, at Camden Community Garden.
Charlie’s Garden location of last Sunday’s gathering is a tiny, 9×9.5m garden forming part of the multi-use Charles Kernan Reserve in inner urban Darlington. It is a diverse mix of herbs and veggies, flowers, and small fruit trees plus a sophisticated composting system.
Thanks to the Charlies gardeners for hosting this great way to spend a warm Sunday afternoon in Sydney.
