THE FIRST WORK DAY for the Lismore Community Garden was held on Saturday 5 December with over 30 people coming along to volunteer their skills, ideas and time.
Despite the heat everyone worked with great enthusiasm and 50 Brewster Street is starting to look more and more like a community garden, with the Mandala garden, mulberry tree and edge plantings well underway.
It was a great opportunity for people to come down and see what’s happening at the community garden as well as to meet up with other volunteers and like-minded people. As volunteer Peter Luckett commented ‘It is just fantastic to work together with so many inspired people and see so much getting done so quickly’.
The work day was organised by the site manager for the community garden, Carla Tipping.
The Lismore Community Garden is a joint project of Rainbow Region Community Farms Inc and the Northern Rivers Social Development Council. They have received funding from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing to establish a community garden in the city for the benefit of all Lismore residents. Lismore City Council is supporting the garden through provision of the land.
