There are more than 50 community gardens growing in South Australia, and always more emerging.
For details of many of the gardens around SA, download the SA Community and School Gardens Network directory of SA Community Gardens. You can get your copy here (1 MB pdf file, this version produced by Jo Staniforth and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens Community and Kitchen Gardens Project.)
Most South Australian community gardens welcome visitors and new gardeners. Please phone before you visit, or come along during opening or working bee times. If you know of other community gardens growing in South Australia, please contact clairenettle@adam.com.au

I am interested in this web site. I am a member of the Blackwood Action Group and have been trying for over 12 months now to get a community garden established in Blackwood. Have you any heard of any plans for such a garden in the Blackwood Hills area?

Hello Pauline
I would be most interested in joining a group in the Blackwood area. I live in a neighbouring suburb and have my own home food producing garden.
Please feel free to contact me via this site should you be looking for additional people to join you.
Regards
Merrian

Hi Merrian, Pauline and Phillip,
I just completed the Permaculture design certificate at the food forest last weekend! It was a brilliant experience and have come home very keen to grow connections in community especially around local food production and permaculture education.
Merrian and Pauline there has been some talk recently about getting a community garden going at Wittunga. Do you know Andrew Tidswell? He seems pretty active, he may be involved in the Blackwood action group. I’ve also attended the Mitcham Hills sustainable communities group meeting which is a good way of connecting people together with these interests.
There are a few of us who are keen to get a local Permaculture group going again- apart from assisting eachother with our own personal projects I am very keen to see if the group would get behind the establishment of a community garden. I’m also interested in seeing if there is interest in my kids school community for a school veggie patch and or involvment with a community garden.
There is a friendly get together to talk about what projects they would like to see happen this Saturday May 28th in Eden hills. Perhaps you would like to attend?
If you have access to facebook you can message me directly, just search with my full name above. It would be great to connect with you both and get going on the community garden project.
All the best
Jo

Hi Joanne
There are two listings for “Joanne Caire” on facebook. One has a photo of a couple and the other has a photo of a woman with long dark hair. Could you please let us know which one is you so that we can connect.
Many thanks

Hi Community gardenites: Things are moving albeit slowly in our attempt to establish a community garden in Blackwood. The Mitcham Council has passed a motion that such a garden should be established in the Mitcham Coucil area. All we have to do is convince them that Blackwood is the most suitable place. Money has been set aside for this project , i.e. looking for a site. Our little working group has at least three suitable sites which are suitable. All we have to do is convince Council that at least one of these is desirable.
Now that we may have a Carbon Tax is looming and the possible increase in the price of consumer goods, now is the time to get this garden up and running. If anyone reading this and is not involved in the Blackwood Action Group Community Garden project add your name to this web site.

I agree that Wittunga Gardens would be a perfect site for a Community Garden and I’m sure the Ashbys who donated the gardens would wholly support the idea IF they were in a position to do so! Let’s hope it becomes a reality.
